Cloggers to Perform at Crawdad Days in Harrison, AR

It's that time of year already... Get your bibs on and dig into those crawdads! IT'S CRAWDAD DAYS! The Harrison Regional Chamber of Commerce will host the 21st annual Crawdad Days May 20th & 21st at Lake Harrison.

The Clogging Studio will perform Saturday, May 20th at 11:00-11:30 a.m. The Harrison Hoedowners will perform with some of our adult students. We have enjoyed participating in this event since 2007 and only missed last year due to rain. This area has seen enough rain - hopefully this year will be sunny and beautiful! Important Notice

The Clogging Studio has been temporarily closed as Ms Tamsyn takes a year off. This decision was not made lightly, it was quite hard.

The Harrison Hoedowners will remain intact. The team will complete its 2011 season and break for the summer. If you are a clogger with experience and want to compete, please contact Ms Tamsyn to be placed on the call list to be notified when the team will resume this fall. These are the only new students being accepted until the studio reopens. More details to come in August.

If you are in the Harrison area seeking clogging classes, the best choice is to contact Blake Dunn at Dance Branson. This is the only comparable option. As always, if you simply want to dance, we highly recommend Deborah Moore Academy of Dance.

Cloggers to Perform at Friday on the Square in Harrison, AR

The Clogging Studio will participate in Friday on the Square for its fifth year in a row. Catch a clogging demonstration on Friday, May 6th 5:45-6:15 p.m. directly in front of The Clogging Studio on the west side of the historic Harrison square. Students of all levels will be performing.

The format of Friday on Square has changed this year now that the Historic Harrison Business Association has taken over. It is no longer an arts-themed event the third Friday of every month, but a themed family event the first Friday of the month 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The theme for May is Cinco De Mayo.

Debut performance at Friday on the Square, June 2007

We hold Friday on the Square near and dear... Our performance at the June 2007 Friday on the Square was our very first performance. We had just opened in March with nine brand new beginners. With four routines, they hit the pavement and never looked back. You can find TCS performing at Friday on the Square every month May through September (except June) every year. Last year the studio moved to the square which we now perform in front of each month.

Hoedowners to Perform at Toad Suck Daze in Conway, Arkansas

The Clogging Studio announces its debut performance at the 30th annual Toad Suck Daze in Conway, Arkansas. This will be the first year for the studio to perform at this event and we couldn't be more excited!

Catch the Harrison Hoedowners on stage at the Toad Dome on Sunday, May 1st at 1:00 p.m. just before the toad races.

Cloggers Perform at KBCN Radiothon for Arkansas Children's Hospital

We were pleased to take part in the annual KBCN Radiothon for Arkansas Children's Hospital. Several students from The Clogging Studio attended to perform curbside at A+ Education Supply in Harrison, Arkansas.

KBCN personality, Lisa Johnson, was positioned on the roof for the day, not to come down until the goal was met.

The goal this year was to raise $33,000 and by the close of the day, the community donated over $50,000! Way to go KBCN!

Thank you to our students and parents who were able to make it out. This performance was dedicated to our studio family, the Helms, who are currently at the Arkansas Children's Hospital.

Spaghetti Stomp Fundraiser This Weekend

The Hoedowners are gearing up for their fundraiser, the Spaghetti Stomp. Tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door. Dinner includes spaghetti, salad, roll, and dessert.

Even if you don't want to eat, come on down for a great show at 7pm and browse the many silent auction items. There is something for everyone!

Join us this Saturday on the west side of the square at The Clogging Studio at 6 pm for dinner, a show, and a silent auction. It all goes to benefit a great group of talented kids.

City Slicker Stomp in Kansas City

The City Slicker Stomp Workshop and Convention was held this past weekend in Kansas City. Over a dozen instructors from across the country and Germany taught classes all day Saturday. Friday night was a mixer, Saturday night was the competition.

The Clogging Studio had a great crew of 13 students attend - many for the first time. A nice break in the day, we have lunch together before heading out to more classes...

CMN Talent Contest Results

The Clogging Studio was represented by 13 entries at the Children's Miracle Network Talent Contest in Clarksville this weekend. The contest had a very high turnout this year and it was fierce competition (out of nine winners from three divisions, only two were dancers, one was a musician, and the rest were singers). We are very pleased with our results! Most importantly - everyone did their best.

This weekend the Harrison Hoedowners 2011 made their debut with a traditional line to "Tallahassee". Amanda, Dakyn, Dawson, Lillie, McKenzie, and Shakoda worked very hard to make it past prelims into finals where they performed a near-flawless routine. They wanted to make a shout out - we missed you this weekend, Madison!

First Competition of the Season This Weekend

The first competition of our 2011 season is this weekend and we want to wish all of our students going a hearty GOOD LUCK: Amanda, Brooke, Dakyn, Debbie, Dawson, Krista, Lillie, Maggie, Marti, McKenzie, Shakoda, Rachel, and Robin.

The Children's Miracle Network Talent Contest in Clarksville, Arkansas is a great way to start off the season. It is a fundraiser for CMN. Singers, dancers, musicians, and variety acts come to throw it down. The top six acts from each age division advance to finals later that night. Winners receive a cash prize.

Summer Clogging Class in Harrison for Boys

The next summer clogging dance class at The Clogging Studio I would like to announce is for boys only in the Harrison, Arkansas area.

Our Boys Only Intro to Clogging Class is for 7-12 year olds who would like to try clogging and learn a little bit about it before jumping in to regular classes.

Designed for the brand new beginner, this class will take students through some of the most basic clogging steps as they learn a basic clogging routine. Terminology and history will be taught alongside demonstrations of different types of clogging and competitive clogging.

Dawson Brereton will serve as assistant for this class. Dawson is 12 years old and is the 2009 GNCC Grand Champion Amateur Male Soloist.

Class will meet Tuesday, July 19th 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Cost is $10. Class size is limited to ten campers.

Bonus: Sign up for fall classes during camp and receive your $25 registration fee waived.

To register for the Boys Only Intro to Clogging Class, simply swing by The Clogging Studio located at 116 N. Willow on the west side of the Harrison Square between My Friend's Closet and Fraley's. The studio opens at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Clogging Comes to Marshall

The Clogging Studios' mission in 2011 is to educate the community about clogging. In this effort, satellite locations will be offered throughout North Central Arkansas.

Introduction to Clogging will include more than a dozen basic clogging steps, a beginner level clogging routine, the history of clogging, demonstrations of the different types of clogging, and a certificate of course completion. The class is open to all ages.

Summer Clogging Classes in Harrison for Kids

If you are in the Harrison, Arkansas area and have a seven to ten year old child who is interested in trying clogging, The Clogging Studio might just have the Summer Camp for you!

Our Intro to Clogging Summer Camp is for kids age 7 to 12 who would like to try clogging and learn a little bit about it before jumping in to regular classes.

 Designed for the brand new beginner, these classes will take campers through at least a dozen of the most basic clogging steps as they learn a basic clogging routine. Terminology and history will be taught alongside demonstrations of different types of clogging and competitive clogging. During their snack and drink break, campers will work on a craft to commemorate their time spent at the studio.

Class will meet Tuesday, August 2nd; Wednesday, August 3rd; Thursday, August 4th; and PERFORM on Friday, August 5th at Friday on the Square. Fee for the camp is $75. Class size is limited.

Clogging & Tap - 3 Easy Differences

Here are three easy ways to tell clogging and tap dancing apart:

1. Both clogging and tap shoes have metal plates. Clogging shoes have two plates that bang against eachother on both the heels and toes giving off the "jiggle", while tap shoes have just one on the heels and toes making a clean sound. Taps are tacked on to clogging shoes versus screwed on to tap shoes.

2. Cloggers dance primarily on the downbeat, tap dancing is on the upbeat. When you listen to a song, do you hear the beat? The "thump"? That's the downbeat. That's what cloggers use. Cloggers hit the beat with their heel and dance with high knees. Tap dancers frequently make use of syncopation and stay mainly on the balls of their feet dancing low to the ground.

3. Clogging is America's folk dance and is often referred to as a "melting pot dance". No genre has been left untapped when it comes to developing steps. The dance is as old as our country. Tap dancing came along in the early 1800's and was widely used in the infancy of showbiz. There are many style of each - tap and clogging - and as clogging evolves from one generation to the next, the two seem to get closer.

On a side note...
Tap is not a prerequisite for clogging just as riding a bike does not make one a better driver. If you have been told that tap is required to learn clogging or will make you a better clogger, you have been misinformed. The two dance forms are alike, but that ends with superficial similarities. Is one harder than the other? No. Both types of dance require dedication, strength, and plenty of time spent honing ones technique. Just as everything in life, it may come naturally to some while others have to put in extra effort. Which to study depends on the dancer. Some find it easy to switch back and forth between clogging and tap, while others prefer to stick to one style.

Spaghetti Stomp Fundraiser

You - yes, you - are invited to the Spaghetti Stomp! Please join us Saturday, April 9th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. for dinner, silent auction, and clogging performance.

This is a fundraiser for the Harrison Hoedowners, a competitive youth clogging team housed right here at The Clogging Studio in Harrison, Arkansas. The team is comprised of seven cloggers, six girls and one boy, ages 9 to 18. Members represent Harrison, Bergman, Marshall, Green Forest, and Berryville. We are incredibly proud of the team this year and want to raise as much as possible. The team will be attending four competitions through March, April, May, and June 2011.

Dinner will be the most delicious spaghetti with salad and a dessert. Drinks are included.

The kids have already started gathering donations for the silent auction from such businesses as Shelby's, Trenz, Devitos, and KBCN. Stay tuned for a complete listing of auction goods!

Students from The Clogging Studio will serve as pre-show entertainment with the Hoedowners hitting the stage towards the end of the evening.

Country Western Line Dancing

We are so excited to announce this great new class at The Clogging Studio... and you won't find it anywhere else in Harrison, Arkansas.

Line Dancing is quickly becoming a popular form of exercise for all ages. This low impact activity is great for the whole body. The class warms up with familiar lines like The Electric Slide, and moves on to different songs, styles, and steps. Music varies with a mix of old and new country favorites.

Jump in any time! A quick review of each line is given before we dance. If you didn't get it this week, just wait - we always break down dances every couple of weeks to catch the newcomers. No partner needed. Singles are welcome here! No experience necessary. Wear what makes you feel comfortable.


The class is mainly for adults, but kids (8 & up) and teens are most certainly welcome to come with as it is a great activity for the family.

Drop-in rate is $5 or you can purchase an 8-class pass for $32 which is punched at each visit and good for six months. Currently enrolled clogging students receive a 20% discount.
